CleanDesk Editor's Review

CleanDesk is a simple application that can clean your messy desktop.

Unlike Camouflage, CleanDesk actually cleans up the desktop. It is based on a Apple Script file, so the first execution of this application was quite weird.

I saw a vacuum on my desktop, and I heard a voice that announced me that my desktop is clean. Then I realized that my documents and my applications from my desktop were placed into some new directories.

The next test was a bit harder job. I copied on my desktop a lot of files. In fact there were so many that the Window Server stop responding. Then I unleashed the power of CleanDesk.

The items were sorted in these categories: documents, applications, videos, and pictures. Probably if I would have had audio files, then it should have sorted those files too. The only items that CleanDesk didn't clean were the directories, and the unknown file type items. The producer states: "up to six folders could be created if needed to store your different kind of files: My_Documents, My_Music, My_Photos, My_Programs, My_Videos, My_Weblocs", so the supported types are obvious.

Pluses: it can cleanup a messy desktop; it does a pretty good job; it has a weird way of showing you that it actually does its job. It also has a pretty good Read Me file.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: if you use your desktop as a storage folder and the cleanup takes forever, then CleanDesk can be a way of sorting things out.
